 KERNOW PIPES AND DRUMS

The bands Musical Director is Dave Maitland, seen here on the left. The tartan being worn is the Cornish Hunting. It was inevitable that we would form this band, as we had all played with one band or another in the past and enjoyed each others company. Our members come from all over Cornwall, from Saltash to Penzance. We have men and women across all age groups.

The influx of experienced pipers and drummers has eventually led us to form what we have today, a very sociable, happy, hard working band, we don`t have rank and file, but work on the ideal that we all help each other. We understand that we will rarely achieve a 100% turn out from our members due to their varied work, but if we have enough to turn out a mini band, then we will. This year, we are hoping that we may be able to forge links and support other bands in the South of England.

We are based in our capital City of Truro. We are very gratefull to Captain Manley of the 6th Rifles, Territorial Army Barracks, Truro, in allowing us to practice each Thursday evening from 1900hrs to 2100hrs.

We want to give Cornwall its own unique pipe and drum band, eventually incorporating lots of Cornish tunes, especially TRELAWNEY. We are adopting the Green Cornish Hunting tartan for our uniform. Some of our band members have already purchased the new kilt and plaids to promote the band. We hope that somebody out there in our lovely county, may help sponsor us to kit out the rest of the band. Just like other bands enjoy up and down the country. We play as good as them, so why not look as good as them as well. After all we are representing Cornwall. Majority of the band own their own uniform and instruments, but sadly we lack the same tartan.

At present you will notice many Scottish clan tartans, very kindly being worn by our members until we become uniform. We can turn out in our modest No2 uniform or Full No1 uniform, mainly used for more formal engagements. The band, has in its short time, evolved strong links with the Royal British Legions here in Cornwall, performing at several parades, marches and stage shows. We run our band practices on a very relaxed attitude, respecting each members ability. On practice nights we have varying levels of practice catering for each level of piping and drumming. We also have a practice night in Plymouth, run by Matt Campbell, details on the CONTACT page. All of the experienced pipers and drummers willingly chip in to help teach at various levels. Kernow Pipes and Drums are all very experienced in performing at Civic Parades, Stage Shows, Carnivals, Fetes, Weddngs and Funerals especially when the need requires the LONE PIPER!

ADJUTANT GENERAL`S CORPS BAND

The Band of the Adjutant General’s Corps was formed on 6th April 1992 in Buller Barracks,Aldershot, with the majority of its musicians being found from the former band of the Women’s Royal Army Corps.  In August 1995, the band moved to its permanent station in Worthy Down, Hampshire, and the home of the Adjutant General’s Corps.  Since formation, five Directors of Music have commanded the band.  The present Director is Captain Neil Morgan, who assumed appointment in February 2005.

During its brief history, the band has undertaken tours of duty at Sandhurst, performed at many high profile engagements such as Buckingham Palace Garden Parties and Wimbledon Tennis Finals, as well as supporting the Corps in Germany, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and the UK.  The band has also been on tours to the USA, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Finland. In August 1999, the band deployed in its operational role to Kosovo for six months, and was attached to 24 Armoured Field Ambulance.

In addition to performing as a marching and concert band, the musicians provide ensembles and groups such as a Woodwind Quintet, Fanfare Team, Brass Quintet, Rhythm and Blues Group and Big Band. The spectrum of music covered is very wide ranging from classical to jazz, film and popular music.

The Adjutant General’s Corps was formed in 1992, as part of the reduction in size of the Armed Forces under “Options for Change”.  It was founded from the amalgamation of The Royal Military Police, The Royal Army Pays Corps, The Royal Army Educational Corps, and The Army Legal Corps, together with elements of The Royal Army Ordnance Corps, The Women’s Royal Army Corps and other Arms and Services of the Army.  With over 1000 officers and 6000 soldiers, the Adjutant General’s Corps is about 7% of the British Army, and currently over 14% of the Corps are on operations serving in almost every unit of the Army throughout the world.

ROYAL SIGNALS MOTOR CYCLE DISPLAY TEAM

The team of 30 volunteer soldiers from the Corps that make up the Royal Signals White Helmets tour Britain from April to September every year demonstrating all the personal qualities demanded of the modern Royal Signals soldier.

The riders, all of whom have successfully completed an arduous induction process in the winter and spring months to gain the right to wear the coveted white helmet, are all qualified Tradesmen in the Corps.
By giving their traditional, thrilling and disciplined arena displays on British Millennium Triumph 750cc motorcycles they clearly show all the qualities of teamwork, courage, trust, strength and agility that are needed in the modern Army. In their immaculate uniforms, the Team performs spectacular feats of balance, death defying crossover rides and outstanding acrobatics.

South West Battle Group

South west Battle Group are a local organisation from Cornwall who provide battle re-inactments from the Second World War. It will be a fantastic display and very loud. Please note that the use of blank ammunitions and pyroteqnics will be used for this display.

SALAMANCA BAND 6TH RIFLES TA

The Salamanca Band and Bugles, led by their Director of Music, Major Chris Willis, is an integral part of the Rifles (the largest Regiment in the British Army) and, besides playing at concerts,  the Band and Bugles lead ceremonial military parades, play at military tattoos and festivals and provide music for formal Regimental dinners.

Although the band’s primary role is to provide high quality musical support to the Regular and Reserve Forces, their traditional role in time of war is to provide support to the Army Medical Services.
The Band and Bugles are in great demand to perform at various venues and events throughout the West Country, and abroad.  e.g.:  June 2004, saw them in Normandy for the D-Day commemorations, supporting many events for the Royal British Legion and the Normandy Veterans Association, as well as performing concerts in Arromanches and the surrounding communities.  Additionally, they regularly perform, marching at 140 paces to the minute, throughout the UK and abroad.
